During the day, the unit provides colour images. At night or in poor lighting conditions, the camera switches to monochrome and becomes IR sensitive. The night mode is activated by a light sensor which senses when the light drops below a certain level. In this mode, the camera ¡®kills¡¯ the colour portion of the video signal and turns the video signal to B/W. At the same time, the infra-red LEDs switch on to provide external light to illuminate the subject. Depending on surface colour and reflection, these LEDs can work out to a distance of 60 meters in little or no light.
